The Team Forward Project: Building a better world, one donation at a time

Mirego unveiled today the Team Forward Project, a philanthropic initiative aiming to increase average donations in Quebec, while engaging organizations and their employees. In this Q&A, Albert Dang-Vu, Mirego’s cofounder, and the people behind the Team Forward Project are telling us more on the initiative.

What is the Team Forward Project?

The Team Forward Project is a journey that started at Mirego in 2019 from our intention to give back a portion of the company’s profits and engage team members in the donation process. The experience of giving back as a team was paramount to us, but we also wanted everyone to be able to support the causes that mattered to them, big or small—so this was a key requirement for the solution we were looking to implement. 

We looked for such a solution only to find out it didn’t exist. We also realized that the average annual donation in Quebec is ridiculously low compared to other Canadian provinces ($130 in Quebec, compared to $300 in Canada). We had to ask ourselves: How could we use our digital product development expertise to drive more Quebeckers to give? With most sectors undergoing a transformation, philanthropy should not be an exception.

Part of our team then volunteered to create a digital platform that would not only allow people to discover active non-profit organizations across the province, but also allow choosing where to allocate their share of the global corporate donation. Our entire team then tested the platform, and from that moment on, other Mirego volunteers joined efforts to evolve it.

 In two years, close to $150,000 were distributed to over 100 organizations selected by our team members.

Why did you decide to create a philanthropic project and not just a corporate initiative?

From Mirego’s inception, our mission has been to build the best team, the best place to work, and build a better world. We believe that giving back to non-profits in our community contributes to building such a better world.

So, now it’s time for other businesses to put our platform to good use?

We want the technology to enable all businesses wanting to give back to the community, regardless of donation amounts, and make it easy for them to do so, engaging their teams in the process. This is the core of today’s announcement. We’re convinced that giving back as a team will positively impact the lives of coworkers across the province and for charities and the people they support. Ultimately, our entire community will benefit.

Who is the Team Forward Project for?

In its first phase, the Team Forward Project is aimed at entrepreneurs and business managers who believe that giving back to the community is the key to a thriving society. Ultimately, we’re looking to reach all business leaders in Quebec. You don’t need to write a $100,000 check to make a difference. Five- and ten-dollar donations can just as well add-up and produce an impact.

 Our goal? Increase the average donation in Quebec.

What’s more, the Team Forward Project is very easy to implement in an organization. All you have to do is determine the annual corporate donation amount and, through the digital platform, team members will be able to allocate their share of the global amount to the causes that mean the most to them. 

Soon, we will also make it possible for users to make personal donations. Through the Team Forward Project, we want everyone to feel the joy of giving back and making a difference.
