The importance of getting together with colleagues

February 22 — 2022

Getting together was always at the heart of who we are, whether it’s around bold ideas, exciting projects or a hearty meal in one of our chalets. Yet, we only truly grasped the importance of making time to be together when stay-at-home orders kept us at a distance from each other.

We firmly believe that as an organization, it is our role to generate ample opportunities for our team members to come together, online and offline, so they can share their victories and passions.

Today, we can safely say such a rich quantity and diversity of events are unprecedented at Mirego. But you may ask, why do events matter so much at Mirego?

Coming together to foster friendships

Over the past two years, Mirego team members have founded over 30 clubs—we call them Mireclubs—as a means to form small groups sharing common interests.

Mireclub Escape Games  · Ski/Snow · Poker · Poutine · Japan · Running · Biking · Whisky · Discovery Tuesdays · Climbing · Foodie · Scotch · Arts and crafts · Wine · Woodworking · Boardgames · Microbrewery · Golf · Mountain Bike · Reading · Skill Games · Video Games · Record Club · Trivia.

So how does it work? It’s very simple! A team member suggests a Mireclub topic, and an activity is organized in a “Mireclub for a day” format. If the event is successful and the team can’t quite contain their excitement, then a new Mireclub is founded. Several activities will be planned during the year—courtesy of Mirego.

" We are truly welcoming everyone’s interests! The Mireclubs are a way for us to offer team activities that will help members develop close and lasting friendships cemented by common interests, outside daily work responsibilities. "

Whether it’s allowing our Mirego athletes to surpass themselves during a special evening of curling or offering Mireclub Japan members a ramen-making workshop at a popular restaurant, we encourage the emergence of friendships that could not have been ignited otherwise. We are convinced that such proximity, which can even erase geographical distance, contributes to a more people-friendly organization.

Getting together to share knowledge

The desire to learn, our dedication towards our profession, our ambition to continually improve are our culture’s cornerstones and a must in our field of expertise. It’s why we’ve always sought to present various initiatives that foster knowledge-sharing.

Horizontals—those moments when all team members get together—bringing a range of experts around the table to share discoveries or solve problems, as well as our lunch and learns, are examples of initiatives that generate exciting discussions each week.

We are committed to keeping our team’s enthusiasm alive, because that’s how our organization moves forward, reaching further than we could ever dare hope.

Coming together to share unique experiences

We wanted to ensure every initiative generates maximum creative impact. Despite the pandemic, we added a full-time event planning role to our team. We welcomed Sabrina, a true enthusiast and event planning buff with over 10 years of experience, notably with the Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ).

The pandemic makes it a real headache to plan events. Constantly juggling scenarios, from plan A to plan Z, Sabrina always manages to find truly exciting options while staying within the boundaries of public health advisories. Her guiding principle? Offer the team a load of exclusive experiences!

" We aim for experiences team members can’t find anywhere else and that can’t be replicated over a weekend with the family. Last year, we collaborated with an escape game company to set up a room exclusively for Mirego, inspired by our own universe. It was a great success! Event partners often can’t believe our audacity, but going the extra mile is worth it because the team is so appreciative! "

Sabrina’s devotion makes a huge difference to the team and there is no limit to the projects we’re trusting her to plan as she brings our vision to life: multiplying opportunities to come together to learn, improve as a team, celebrate our victories, reinvent the world, and just be there for each other, building relationships that will blossom for years to come.
